Both sizes have large weather resistant saddlebags and a detachable cantlebag. Removable insuliners in the saddle bags act as padding for fragile items as well as insulation for keeping drinks and lunch cold.
The TrailMax Original & Junior Rear saddlebags have been the preferred saddlebags for Outfitters Supply customers since 1997. They were introduced as an alternative to some pretty poorly designed saddlebags that trail riders had been struggling with for years; saddlebags that wouldn’t stay on the horse, or that hung so low that they constantly slapped the horse in the flank. Construction of these early bags was at best marginal. Straps broke and seams opened up on the trail, spilling gear and turning what was supposed to be a pleasure ride into a nightmare.
$69.96 at OutfittersSupply.com Outfitters Supply addressed these issues by double stitching all seams with heavy nylon thread that would not rot or fail in stressful situations. The bags were moved closer together to keep the weight high on the horse and secured to the saddle with grommets for saddle strings as well as two straps that attached to the front rigging rings. The bags pull tight around the cantle, keeping them centered on the horses back. The cantle bag detachable for easy loading and unloading. Two compression straps surround the cantle bag to keep it compact, regardless of load size.
Many trail riders use these rear saddle bags in conjunction with either the original TrailMax horn/pommel bags or the TrailMax Junior horn/pommel bags to make a saddlebag system. Utilizing horn bags for heavier items like binoculars, cameras, water, and lunch puts the weight over a horse’s front shoulders, where it is carried easiest, while keeping those items you need most often right at your finger tips.
