TrailMAX’s Front Pocket is often considered the “middle child” of our 500-series, and as such, gets the most attention. Consistently our #1 ‘Most Popular’ item (as noted in our ‘Top 20 Trail Riding & Packing Products‘ article) the TrailMAX Front Pocket is a simple answer to a slew of trail riding & backcountry packing conundrums.

Some of our favorites include “Where am I s’posed t’put my keys?”, or “I can’t believe I missed a great photo of that huge buck!” and “Why’m I laying on the ground?”, the last of which happens because something in your saddle bags brushed up against your cell phone, powering it on, and spooking the begeeziz out of your horse with the “Devil Went Down to Georgia” ringtone your kid loaded when you weren’t looking.

WTM502 Water Pocket on HornEven if your horse does have an ear for Charlie Daniels, though, you’ll no doubt find the TrailMAX Front Pocket quite handy for keeping a cellphone or two-way radio within reach in case of emergency, or just to check up on the family & folks back home.

Small digital cameras & mini-camcorders also secure nicely, staying perfectly within reach for capturing the moment at a gunshot’s notice, and because of the water-proof 1,680 denier Nylon, high-density foam liner, and tightly sealed #10 zippers, your expensive equipment (and the photographic/video memories on it) are better protected from both physical and water damage.

Keys fit in here too, and while that might not seem like a big deal, it beats having to search through your gear to figure out which pannier or bag they went into, and if they aren’t there, searching the trail for miles trying to figure out where they dropped (especially in the dark).

Some other uses, per the minds of our great customers, include…

  • Keeping a utility knife handy and not having to fish it out from your jeans
  • Storing a flashlight in case it gets too dark
  • Packing along small snacks or energy bars for yourself, or your horse too!
  • Keeping a spare reel, line, and flies/lures for your fishing rod
  • A place to put your iPod or compact music player
(Keep in mind, we’d suggest NOT listening while riding, not only because we think nature sounds great on it’s own, but also that it could be downright dangerous to not hear what’s happening around you.)
  • Safeguarding trail maps or important papers/permits that a game warden or ranger may ask you to produce.
  • Storing your GPS unit in an accessible place, especially if you’re into the outdoor treasure-hunting game called “geocaching”
  • Having the mother-in-law’s cosmetic kit handy so your horses don’t spook if it rains. (Folks, we honestly can’t make this stuff up.)
